Monrovia, California (Wednesday, May 22, 2019) – US RaceTronics is excited to announce that addition of Steven Aghakhani to their driver line-up for the remainder of the 2019 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North American season. The California youth will become the youngest driver to compete in the prestigious series when he takes the track next month at the iconic Watkins Glen International circuit.
Aghakhani has been part of the US RaceTronics family since the young age of 12 when he entered the team’s driver development program. Aghakhani turned 16 in April and immediately applied for and was granted a license by IMSA.
“I want to thank IMSA for the opportunity to be a part of this series and thank them for supporting me in this sport at such a young age,” Aghakhani said. “For them to have that trust in me means a lot. I also want to thank Lamborghini for their on-going support. I am really proud to be driving the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo and I am ready to give this race series my all and try my best at the podium, I can’t wait.”
Chris Ward, Senior Manager, Motorsport, for Automobili Lamborghini America LLC is delighted to have the young American joining the series.
“Lamborghini Squadra Corse are delighted to welcome Steven Aghakhani to the Super Trofeo paddock as the youngest driver to compete in the Series globally,” Ward said. “Steven has demonstrated his ability in competition outside of the championship over the past few years and I know he has been working extremely hard in this build up to his debut at Watkins Glen in just a few weeks.”
US RaceTronics’ team owner, Shane Seneviratne, is thrilled to have Steven rounding out the team’s four-car effort for Watkins Glen. Aghakhani has grown up as part of the USRT family and Seneviratne is excited to have the opportunity to showcase the teenager’s capabilities on track.
“I’m really excited to have Steven Aghakhani join our Super Trofeo program,” Seneviratne said. “It’s been quite a remarkable journey with Steven. We started when he was very young, 12-years-old, with a Lamborghini Gallardo. He’s finally eligible to go Super Trofeo racing and we’re looking forward to having him drive for us in the AM Championship. He’s made tremendous progress over the years. I think he’s going to be very competitive and I’m confident that he’ll do well in the series.”
“I also want to thank all of Steven’s sponsors for all their support,” Seneviratne added. “They’ve been remarkable to work with over the last few years and I think there’s a bright future with many of these partnerships. I think Steven’s going to do well and get them quite a bit of attention, which will enhance the sponsorships and return on investments for all the sponsors.”
Steven would also like to thank SADA, Shegerian and Associates, Tax and Business Consulting Group, LPA Lighting, LF Illuminations, Forgiato, FGO, Aghakhani & Luk LLP, Pro Automotive repair shop, Magic Laundry Services, Insignia Mortgage, SKY Financials, RX Unlimited, and US RaceTronics for their continued support. He is looking forward to promoting their brands both on and off the track.
Come out and support Steven and the entire US RaceTronics’ team June 27-29 at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, NY.
