Watkins Glen, New York (Wednesday, June 26, 2019) – US RaceTronics is proud to have 16-year-old Steven Aghakhani joining their Lamborghini Super Trofeo program starting with this weekend’s rounds at Watkins Glen International. The Southern California based team will now be running entries in each of the four Lamborghini Super Trofeo classes for the remainder of the season. The team also got some extremely exciting news during the break between rounds when it was announced that both Patrick Liddy and Jacob Eidson were selected for the Lamborghini Young Drivers Program. Only two North American drivers were selected and US RaceTronics is proud to have both of them on their team. While both are excited and grateful to Lamborghini for the honor, their focus right now is on this weekend’s racing.
Damon Ockey and Jacob Eidson come into the weekend with the points lead in the ProAm class. as well as a new look, in the No. 09 Lamborghini of Vancouver and are looking to extend that with a couple more wins. The pair won their class in both races of the opening rounds of the season and took home an impressive third-place overall in Round 2. Ockey made the jump from AM this season and is sharing driving duties for the first time in his LST career. He’s incredibly happy to have Eidson as his co-driver.
Patrick Liddy and Bryce Miller return in the No.34 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills. The PRO duo finished second in Round 2 at Barber Motorsports Park, but are confident that they’ll be able to make it to the top step of the podium this weekend. The 3.4 mile, 11-turn Road Course is fast and smooth and suits both drivers’ driving styles.
Steven Aghakhani joins the team in the No. 6 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills and will compete in the AM class. This will be Aghakhani’s first Lamborghini Super Trofeo start and he’s excited about the challenge ahead. Aghakhani will be driving solo in this, his rookie, season and is excited to have the opportunity to compete against such a great field of very competitive drivers.
Ron Atapattu returns to LB Cup competition in the re-designed No. 24 Elephantea Lamborghini of San Diego. Atapattu has never raced at Watkins Glen International before, but is looking forward to the challenge of learning the nuances of the famed track. He and Aghakhani are both seeking their first podiums of the young LST season.
Practice kicks of the weekend tomorrow, Thursday, June 27, 2019 followed by qualifying and Round 3 on Friday, June 28, 2019. Round 4 of the 2019 LSTNA season goes green Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10:25 a.m. Eastern Time.
Damon Ockey – “It’s been a long break between races and I’m really looking forward to getting back in the car. I’m super pumped for my Co-Driver Jacob and his selection into the Lamborghini Young Drivers Program. Really good for him and well deserved. Takes some pressure off me because now he really has to perform, sorry Jake. Same congrats to Patrick and his acceptance to the program too. These guys are fast. Anyways coming off of 2 wins at Barber the pressure is really on now, everyone will be looking to knock us down. We are coming into the race confident yet expecting huge competition. Barber was a new track for me so it was tough getting up to speed sharing half the practice time. I’ve been to the Glen a bunch so that will be a good start. Big shout out to US RaceTronics and their professionalism during the races and getting the cars in top shape. Lastly looking forward to having Steven on the team. Great kid and it will fun to watch him get fast and kill it out there.”
Jacob Eidson – “I’m very excited for Watkins. After having a strong start to the season with Damon at Barber, hopefully we can build on that and get on the overall podium again as well as class wins.
(When asked about his selection to the Lamborghini Young Drivers Program, Eidson responded) “I’m very grateful to be a part of the Lamborghini Young Drivers Program. It would be a dream come true becoming a Lamborghini Factory Driver and joining this program is one step closer. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Patrick Liddy – “I’m super excited to get back out for Rounds 3 and 4 of Super Trofeo after our long mid season break. Bryce and I are looking for a repeat of our podium performance at Barber in the Pro field, but just one step higher!”
(When asked about his selection to the Lamborghini Young Drivers Program, Liddy responded) “I’m tremendously grateful for the invitation from Lamborghini to join their Official Young Driver program. It’s been amazing working with them so far and its even better to share this honor with my teammate Jacob. Looking forward to seeing where this new opportunity takes me!”
Bryce Miller – “I am just thrilled that the break is over! That felt like the longest gap ever between races and I am ready to get back in the cockpit. Watkins Glen is the fastest track on the schedule and one of my favorites. It’s fast and flowy nature really makes for some good racing. Super excited to welcome our new partner BirdWing Motorsports Park on board for the remainder of the season. Look forward to some great announcements coming from them!”
Steven Aghakhani – “I want to thank IMSA for the opportunity to race. I have been putting a lot into the preparation for this race and it is my first time competing on this track. I am excited to show everyone the result of my practices and determination. We are expecting great results.”
Ron Atapattu – “I’ve never raced at Watkins Glen, but I’m looking forward to the challenge. We’ve had a long break since the first race of the season in April until now so I’m ready to get racing again. We did a test last month at The Glen, but it was quite rainy and cold that day, so we didn’t get as much time on track as we’d have hoped, but I did get to familiarize myself with the circuit.”
Shane Seneviratne – “We had a great season-opening weekend at Barber Motorsports Park and I’m proud of all our drivers and crew. A lot of hard work from the entire team went into getting those results. I also want to congratulate Patrick and Jacob on their selection to the Lamborghini Young Drivers Program. That’s an incredible honor that they both deserved. Now we’re shifting our focus to Watkins Glen. We’ve added Steven Aghakhani to the lineup in the AM class and I’m excited to see how does in his debut in the series. I’m confident that he and all of our drivers will do well here and I’m looking forward to getting back to racing after the long break.”
