Buttonwillow, California (February 28, 2017) – US RaceTronics signed 13-year-old Steven Aghakhani for the 2017 race season. The young driver will be competing in the NASA (National Auto Sport Association) Southern California Region Championship.
Aghakhani began his development training with USRT last season and quickly moved from the Lamborghini Gallardo to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Huracán. He competed in and won several Global Time Attack events which focus on raw speed. 2017 will have Aghakhani competing in his first head to head against other drivers. The rapid development of his race craft impressed the team as well as his driver coach, Bryce Miller.
“When it comes down to it, door to door racing is what it is all about,” said Miller. “Everything we have done has been to get him (Steven) prepared for this at such a young age. The NASA SoCal Sprint Series will be a great platform for him to get his feet wet in the world of competitive racing. We took him from having minimal experience on a race track, to being a competent and consistent driver. He’s extremely talented, a quick learner and most of all… he’s fast! All that’s left to do is to go racing!”
Aghakhani knows he still has a lot of progress to make, but is thankful for all the support he’s had to get him to this point.
“My father always tells me that greatness is earned and never awarded,” Aghakhani said. “I have had some amazing moments this last year thanks to hard work, dedication and incredible support. I am really looking forward to this coming race season, I want to earn that greatness and I’m ready to put in as much hard work as it takes”.
Team owner Shane Seneviratne is extremely pleased with the progress of the young racer and thinks he has a very bright future.
“Steven’s made tremendous progress over the last year and we’re excited to build on his driving skills as well as his commercial prospects,” Seneviratne said. “We’ve brought on some great sponsors to help Steven get his racing career started and we want to thank them for their current commitment and support of the team and Steven as well as our future endeavors.
We would like to thank Sada Systems, RX Unlimited, LPA Lighting, Steamers Cleaners, Magic Laundry Services, Reflective Strategy, Protective Film Solutions, turnkeyx.com, Shift Sector, Pro Automotive, and Tax and Business Consulting Group for their support.
|About US RaceTronics
US RaceTronics (USRT) originated in 2005, founded by Shane Seneviratne to compete in the Atlantic Championship, a formula race car series with races throughout North America. The team finished 5th in points its first year and continued its success during the succeeding years, ultimately amassing a total of 21 podiums, 7 poles, 5 race wins and finishing 3rd in the 2009 Atlantic Championship. USRT was put on hold after series officials announced the Atlantic Series was put on hiatus. Seneviratne fully returned to racing in 2015 after receiving an invitation to manage the O’Gara Motorsport entries in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North American Series. The team won the Team Championship, Dealership Championship, Pro Championship with driver Richard Antinucci, and Amateur Championship with Ryan Ockey. The success of 2015 reignited Seneviratne’s passion for racing and he relaunched US RaceTronics to compete in the 2016 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North American Series where the team earned a combined 17 podium finishes, won the Amateur Championship with Damon Ockey, and finished third in the ProAm Championship with Brian Thienes.
