USRT Excited to be Heading to VIR for Rounds 7 and 8 of 2017 LSTNA Competition

Alton, Virginia (Wednesday, August 23, 2017) – After a challenging weekend at Road America, US RaceTronics’ drivers and crew look forward to a successful weekend at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). The overriding goal for the weekend is to keep the cars safe and score points for the championship.

The Pro-Am duo of Edoardo Piscopo and Taylor Proto will be back in the No. 50 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills and focused on finishing on the highest step of the podium. After a successful test last month, Taylor Proto is excited coming into the weekend.
“VIR is an exciting upcoming round for me,” Proto said. “I got the opportunity to test at the track and that has given both me and the team really valuable knowledge. The track is fun and has a great rhythm to it, so I’m happy to be coming here with a great lead in the points-standings. I think we as a team can accomplish a lot at VIR.”
Co-driver Edoardo Piscopo won at VIR in 2015 and is focused on repeating that success.
“I really like this track a lot,” Piscopo said. “I’ve been successful here in the past and think we have a great shot at winning this weekend. We had a challenging weekend at Road America, but that’s in the past. We still came away leading the points, but now we’re focused on winning and extending our lead. Our goal is to have an incident-free event while grabbing as many points as we can.”
AM driver Brian Thienes wants to turn his luck around and achieve good results in both races at VIR.
“I’m looking forward to my first race at Virginia International Raceway,” Thienes said. “We had really good results at the test last month and I expect we will be able to achieve good results for the race. After a somewhat disappointing weekend at Road America where I wrecked the car in practice, I look forward to a fresh start at VIR. The team has done such a great job so far this year giving me a really fast car; they were particularly challenged to put the car back together for the race. I am honored to be a part of this team and looking forward turning our luck around.”
LB Cup drivers Mark Proto and Parris Mullins are eager to get back on track at VIR in the No. 88 Lamborghini of La Jolla. Both drivers anticipate a great weekend with good results.
“We had a great test at VIR last month and I really like the track,” Mark Proto said. “I’m confident that we’ll have a much better weekend than what we had a Road America. I think that Parris and I have a real shot at a podium finish. US RaceTronics did a fantastic job of putting the car back together in order for us to race in Round 6, but with so little track time we were at a definite disadvantage. I don’t expect anything like that happening at VIR.”
“I raced at VIR back in 2013,” Mullins added. “I love the track and I’m really excited to be coming back. It’s one of my favorite tracks and I can’t wait to get back there. I think Mark and I can be competitive this weekend and I expect to see us getting great results. I want to thank US RaceTronics for all their hard work this season. They’ve done an amazing job and I’m pleased to be working with them.”
Team owner Shane Seneviratne is happy to be heading to VIR as well.
“I’m really happy to be back at VIR,” Seneviratne said. “The crew did a good job stepping up to the challenges we faced at Road America and I’m really proud of how they all pulled together to get the No. 50 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills back on track on Sunday. The crew stayed a couple of extra days at Road America to do some fine-tuning in preparation for this weekend’s event at VIR. I’m confident that all their hard work will pay off and we’ll see all three cars back on the podium.
The weekend kicks off with a promoter test tomorrow, August 24, 2017, followed by two practice sessions on Friday, August 25, 2017. Qualifying is scheduled for Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:05 a.m., with Race 1 going green at 4:40 p.m. that afternoon. The final event of the weekend is Race 2 beginning at 9:50 a.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017. All times are local EST.
