Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin (August 2, 2017) – US RaceTronics arrived at Road America ready to get back to the rush of competition found in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North American series after successful tests at VIR and Road America. Pro-Am drivers Edoardo Piscopo and Taylor Proto head into this weekend’s races leading their class, while Brian Thienes is tied for first place in the AM class.
This will be the first time racing at the famed 4.048 mile, 14-turn road course for both Piscopo and Taylor Proto as they look to extend their lead in the Pro-Am class.
“It will be my first time in Road America,” Piscopo said. “I will need to maximize track time in practice to get up to speed. My goal is to extend the lead for the No. 50 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills in Pro-Am and give everyone else in Pro a hard time.”
“I’m really looking forward to this weekend’s racing,” Taylor Proto said. “It’ll be great to be back sharing the car with Edoardo. I was able to do a bit of testing here and love the challenges this track presents. I’m confident that Edoardo will get up to speed quickly and get us another great qualifying position. This should be a fun event for all of us.”
Brian Thienes will be making his second appearance at Road America and is looking for another great result here. Thienes expects to continue the momentum gained with his win in Round 4 at Watkins Glen International.
“I’m looking forward to returning to Road America again this year with US RaceTronics,” Thienes said. “We had really good results last year at this track and I expect we will be able to continue our momentum with our win in race 2 at Watkins Glen last month. The hard work and dedication of my crew at US RaceTronics has been paying off and we should be able to take the lead in the AM class. The team has done such a great job so far this year giving me a really fast car. I am honored to be a part of this team and looking forward to another successful race weekend with US RaceTronics. Shane has put together a really strong team with talented mechanics and engineers this year.”
US RaceTronics’ duo of Parris Mullins and Mark Proto are hoping for a good weekend in the No. 88 Lamborghini of La Jolla. The pair are in search of their second podium finish in LB Cup competition.
“This will be my first time racing at Road America and I’m really excited about it,” Mullins said. “This is a phenomenal track and I can’t wait to go up against our competition here. Shane and the US RaceTronics team have given us a great race car that I think we’ll be able to get back to the podium with. This track plays to my strengths as a driver and I’m really looking forward to seeing how high we can finish here.”
“We had a great test here at Road America and I absolutely love this track,” Mark Proto said. “It’s going to be a weekend of challenging racing and I can’t wait to get started. We have an open test on Thursday which will help us get even more comfortable with the track. I think with our additional day of testing we’ll have a leg up on the competition.”
Team owner Shane Seneviratne expects all three cars to have good results this weekend. He’s confident that the crew can give their drivers the cars they need to reach their respective podiums again.
“We’ve had a couple of great tests,” Seneviratne said, “and I think that will show in this weekend’s races. The crew is determined to give their drivers the best equipment possible and I’m confident that it will get us back on the podium. We’ve been gearing up for this event since the day after Round 4 at Watkins Glen and I’m pretty sure all the hard work the team has put in since then will pay off. I’m proud of how well the guys have pulled together to get all three cars ready for this weekend’s event.”
The team will participate in the promoter test on Thursday, August 3, 2017 before the official event begins with two practices on Friday. Saturday, August 5, 2017 will see the team in action at 8:00 a.m. CDT for qualifying with Race 1 going green at 2:30 p.m. CDT that afternoon. The weekend will wrap up for US RaceTronics on Sunday, August 6, 2017 with Race 2 starting at 10:55 a.m. CDT.
